Premium IOLsBy the time you reach the age of 40 you’ve accomplished quite a bit. School, career, family, kids… but guess what? You’ve still got half your life ahead of you. Forty may mean you’re now over the hill, but there’s still plenty left to do. It’s unfortunate then, that our near vision begins to deteriorate around this time. If you’ve recently found it necessary to use reading glasses, bifocals or progressive lenses, then you, along with millions of other Americans, are likely suffering from presbyopia. Presbyopia is the medical term for an aging eye that has become less flexible in both the lens and muscles. Unfortunately, this condition is likely to affect everyone at some point. In the past, the only treatment for presbyopia was an implantable monofocal lens. This was effective in delivering adequate intermediate to distance vision, but still required glasses for close-up vision. Now, at Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center, there’s a better solution. Premium IOLs were originally developed for cataracts patients, but are also a great option for giving presbyopia sufferers the freedom of improved vision at all distances. Options like the Crystalens,® ReZoom™ and RESTOR® optical lenses are all versatile solutions that can help reduce your dependence on readers or bifocals. Phakic IOLsHave you been told you are not a candidate for LASIK due to severe nearsightedness? Then the Visian ICL may be right for you. The Visian ICL is ideal for individuals with moderate to severe nearsightedness (also called myopia) that were not candidates for Blade Free HD IntraLASIK due to the amount of nearsightedness or the thinness of their corneas. Unlike the Crystalens, ReZoom or ReSTOR procedure, the Visian ICL is not a lens replacement procedure. Since the natural lens remains in place, the Visian ICL is not recommended for cataract patients. |
